#45 - Self Black Male
This boys color is tending to brown (chocolate). The tail is not held straight, and in the side picture the chest does not seem balanced to the rump. Nice eye shape and thick fur. There is a lot to like about him, but he looks quite young and lacks bulk. Also has white on the paws. |
3rd Place | #43 - Self Black Male
COMMENTS: This boy doesn’t appear to have the mature male bulk we are looking for in a show male. Note that when they are standing tall as in this photo it tends to elongate them and not show off their mass. I do like the body type, head, and eye shape. Some white on paws and chin. Ears appear long. Straight tail. Beautiful tuft! |
First Place | #50 - Red Fox Female
COMMENTS: This is a lovely gerbil. I absolutely love EVERYTHING about this Red Fox. The color is so rich- stunning and even. The top view is amazing and shows the desired color best “deep, rich reddish-gold.” She has a gorgeous mature female body type, beautiful head and eye. Really well put together with beautiful body type, head, almond eye-shape and straight thick tail. Eyes should be deep ruby in color. |
BOS | #47 - Lilac Male
COMMENTS: love the coloring on this gerbil! Often lilac gerbils are faded/too light, but he has a rich color with the desired lilac cast to the fur. Beautiful male build, nice head and eye. Cannot judge tail straightness in these photos; appears to be free of any kinks or bends. The eye should have deep ruby color. |
2nd Place #51 - Slate Female
COMMENTS: This gerbil has the whole package. She has a strong feminine build: I love her body shape, nice head, fanning whiskers, thick straight tail. The eyes could be a bit more almond shaped and in the front view the front toenail look a bit light. The coat has a bit of a roan appearance vs “even color all over the body.” |
Honorable Mention | #21 - White Male
COMMENTS: this is very attractive gerbil. He has a wonderful male build and his head, body, and tail all flow together beautifully. The tail is thick and straight. He has the desired almond shaped eye. His color is a bit of a tweener between white and silver point, as the tail and ears are gray (like a silver point) but face mask, whiskers and feet and toenails are white (like a white gerbil). Want to give him an honorable mention because he is SO nice but unfortunately does not match the color standard. Would be nice to pull into a breeding line with a match up to produce standard colors. |
First Place | #15 - Colorpoint Nutmeg Male
COMMENTS: Good male body type, muscular and not obese. Nice flat topline. Nice body color on the head/neck and rump, but he’s lighter around his upper back and shoulders. Looks like maybe he’s young and still getting color in. I’d definitely like to see a darker mask and paws, but he might still be growing into them. Tail color is lovely, good length and thickness, great tuft. Some white on chin, but I don’t see any on paws. Good short, well-set head, though his eyes are a rounder and his ears are more upright than ideal. |
BOS | #14 - Colorpoint Nutmeg Female
COMMENTS: This girl is SO dark, she was entered as a Silver Nutmeg. But the brown shade of her ticking gives her away as an incredibly dark Colorpoint Nutmeg. Most CPNs are lighter than ideal, so it’s no wonder she was misidentified. Not surprisingly, her body color is a bit too dark, making for a less impressive contrast against her points. Her nose point/mask is gorgeous, and she’s got some good color on her feet, but not enough to stand out against the body color. Unfortunately, she stands out in this class as being the only one with significant white on her chin and forepaws. She has an excellent streamlined feminine body type. Short, broad head. Eyes a little too round. Good whiskers. Fur is clean and well-prepared, but she does have some molt lines. Wish I could see her tail properly, what I can make out looks promising. |
2nd Place | #16 - Colorpoint Nutmeg Female
COMMENTS: Body type looks pretty good for a mature female, but she’s in a pose that’s hard to assess. Great body color, good mask, unfortunately completely lacking paw points. Tail might be a little short, seems to taper, not displaying tuft well at all. Head is on the narrow side, but very nice almond eye. Clean, soft fur, does have a few molt lines. |
3rd Place | #17 - Colorpoint Nutmeg Female
COMMENTS: Petite female, probably young—looks like points are still coming in on the hind paws. Neck dip. Body color is a bit light, but good mask and paw points (though heels are still light). A bit of white on upper lip, but none on paws. Can’t get a good assessment of head shape; looks okay in profile, but head-on is ratty—long and narrow with upright ears. Nice eye shape. Tail is good with moderate tuft. There’s some staining on the belly. |
First Place | #67 - Gray Agouti Male
COMMENTS: Wow, what a flashy boy. Nice Gray Agouti coloring. His coloring is nice and dark and even without any molt lines. Nice clear line of demarcation and brilliant white belly. He has an attractive shape that flows from head, to body to tail. Nice head set. Beautiful almond eye. He could use a bit more bulk, should be able to tell right on sight male vs. female, sometimes it is hard to see their full size when they are in the standing up position, rather than on all fours. Beautiful tail and tuft: straight tail with flaring tuft shows well with the darker ridge hairs. |
BOS | #37 - Agouti Female
COMMENTS: Nice feminine build. Her color is washed out from the lighting. Wish I could see her and her coloring in person. Her topline isn't super smooth but it looks like it could just be ruffled fur. Nice almond eye, and perfectly straight, thick tail. Nice dark toenails. I thought her head was very nice. Shorter face with the roman nose and in the front view the ears and nose make that nice even triangle shape. Tail looks like it's a good length with pretty good tuft. |
2nd Place | #63 - Argente Female
COMMENTS: Very nice looking gerbil! Feminine build, rich coloring, good head and eye shape, clear line of demarcation (could be a bit higher) and clean white belly. Eyes should be deep ruby. Look dark in the side photo. Beautiful tail. Tail is perfectly straight. Her tail is on the short side and tapered. Would like to see a bit more tuft. Her color is very nice. I like her shorter face and feminine build. It looks like her feet may not be white. But it's hard to tell with the lighting and camera angle. it's a shame both pictures are basically the same angle (vs. clear front and side view) and there's certain features we can't see. She has a nice feminine build and a nice head from what I can see. Difficult to see her topline. |
3rd Place | #62 - Argente Cream Male
COMMENTS: This boy looks too bright for argente cream and not bright enough for argente golden, so I'm thinking he's a topaz (which is not a standardized color). He has the desired clear line of demarcation separating the color from the white belly. He has a very clean belly. There is some color on the front paw, should be white. That coloring, his size and long tail length are indicators of a young/immature gerbils. He has a nice head, perhaps a bit long, and attractive eye. He is not carrying his tail completely straight in the photo. He is developing nicely. |
First Place | #71 - Yellow Fox Female
COMMENTS: Nice feminine build on this girl. And good golden yellow coloring fading gradually to a clean with belly. She holds her tail straight, could have a bit more tuft. The fur should be lighter around the eyes, but the fur almost looks white (camera flash?) also seems to be white hairs in the coat and on the base of the tail. |
BOS | #65 - Dark Eyed Honey Male
COMMENTS: the (large) head size to body radio and long tail length gives him the look of a young/teen gerbil. That said he is quite handsome with nice coloring fading gradually to the white belly. He has a beautiful almond shaped eye and nice straight tail with a good tuft. He looks very clean. There does seem to be some white hairs toward the center of the tail. |
2nd Place | #66 - Dark Eyed Honey Female
COMMENTS: this girl has nice rich coloring on the base color, would like to see more ticking. Good head and eye shape and a beautiful tufty tail. The fur around the eyes should be somewhat lighter but the face in the side photo looks very white, I think it is a flash issue, because the face in the front view shows more coloring. May have a slight neck dip. Seems to be white hairs in the tail. |
3rd Place | #68 - Polar Fox Female
COMMENTS: This gerbil has a bulky build, females should be more streamline; she does look muscular though. She has a nice head and eye shape. Make sure you show both eyes in the “front” shot (yes someone one did enter a one-eyed gerbil in the Virtual Show!) Her ticking is even, but should be gray, looks a bit peachy. The tail tapers a bit. She is an attractive and flashy gerbil, even though not quite the show standard. She may judge better as a cream as she ages. |
3rd Place | #36 - Schimmel Male
This male is grossly obese. He has no neck; his whole front half is just covered in fat pads. He still has quite a bit of orange in his body fur, and a molt line over his hips. Nice rich color at the nose and tail. Good eye shape. Tail bends near the tip, but has a good tuft. |
#19 - Honey Cream Male
This gerbil is an odd color. He appears to be a Honey Cream, but instead of the typical “peaches and cream” pattern, he’s almost entirely peach. He has a more feminine body type, needs more muscle mass around the shoulders. Good whiskers, head and eye shape. Tail has a bend just before the tuft. |
2nd Place | #32 - Nutmeg Male
Great male body type, hefty with muscle, straight topline. Just starting to get fat pads over the shoulders and around the front legs; I wouldn’t want to see him any heavier. Good head and eye shape. Some white on upper lip, but none on paws. On the pale side, lacking in both gold mid-coat and depth of ticking. No obvious molt lines, though, amazing for a Nutmeg! Thick, straight tail but minimal tuft. |
First Place | #39 - Pied Lilac Female
Looks like a good feminine body type when you take all three photos into account, but the way she’s standing in the profile shot is all hunched up. Good collar, though the rear edge is uneven. I’d like to see a larger/more obvious nose spot and a slightly larger tail spot. The Pied pattern should have the last ¼ to ½ of the tail white, and she’s got just under ¼. Nice even base coloring, not lightened too much by the spotting. Good head shape, whiskers. Eye is a bit round. Thick straight tail with what appears to be a good amount of tuft—hard to make out against the white background, but I know the limited background options this year made things tough for marked gerbils. |
First Place | #58 - Spotted Burmese Male
COMMENTS: This is a flashy gerbil. He has all the right spots in all the right places (nose, head, neck, tail tip, and feet) and has maintained nice Burmese coloring without stray white hairs. Ideally the neck spot would be larger. It is better to photograph the side view on all fours, it is not showing his bulk as the front view does and make there appear to be a neck dip. Also give a dust bath so the fur doesn’t appear greasy. |
BOS | #55 - Spotted Blue Female
COMMENTS: Wow, what a beautiful gerbil with a mature feminine build. Her pewter color blue is magnificent and she has a plush soft looking coat with a thick tail and nice tufty tuft. Ideally the nose spot would be bigger and the neck spot cleaner. There is no stray white on the face or body, but there is white on the tail. |
2nd Place | #53 - Spotted Agouti Female
COMMENTS: Nice feminine body type. Nice eye shape. The head could flow better into the body, the head to body proportions and eye to head proportion gives her a pup-like appearance. might be a slight neck dip. Very nice spotting pattern! including a large neck spot. The agouti coloring is nice as well, ideally would be a bit more rich, but it might be washed out in the photos. |
3rd Place | #54 - Spotted Black Female
COMMENTS: It is difficult to see her shape in the sideview as she is angled towards me and it gives here the immature look of a pup (e.g., the head is large in proportion to body.) The shape of the head looks nice in the front view and she has a symmetrical and striking pattern. The nose and head spot are very attractive, ideally the neck spot would have cleaner edges. Nice tuft, may be some white hairs in the tail. |
Honorable Mention | #59 - Spotted Colorpoint Agouti Female
COMMENTS: She has a beautiful body type. A real stunner, with a lovely head and eye. I would like to see more of a cinnamon color to her with brown roots. The photos have the tail blurred so hard to see the coloring. As a colorpoint gerbil, the nose and tail ideally should be noticeably darker than the body. Nice thick, straight tail. I wish I had more ribbons to give in this large class. |
First Place | #84 - Mottled Burmese Male
COMMENTS: Excellent size for a 9w old pup! Well set head, nice deep jowl. Nice mottling, especially facial pattern. BOS | #81 - Siamese Female
COMMENTS: BOS small but wow! Nice siamese color, dark points, thick straight tail, nice mask 2nd Place | #85 - Honey Cream Male
COMMENTS: Maybe actually a mottled nutmeg, ticking fairly dark. For now we can judge as an HC. Size is good for age. Nice head set, nice eye shape 3rd Place | #86 - Spotted Nutmeg Male
COMMENTS:Nice nutmeg color. Nice spotting pattern. Nice eye. Needs to mature, needs muscle. Topline too arched. |
First Place | #80 - Self Black Male, 8 wks
COMMENTS: Great tuft. Very little white. Mature & promising type. BOS | #77 - Mottled Black Female, 8 wks
COMMENTS: Very nice female body type. Nice mottling but base light. Slight taper in tail before tuft 2nd Place | #74/75 - Nutmeg Male, 7 wks
COMMENTS: Wow tuft, nice tail! Color developing very nicely. 3rd Place | #79 - Nutmeg Female, 8 wks
COMMENTS: Great tuft, nice eye. Mature type. Color developing nicely. |
First Place | #98 - Pied Agouti Male
COMMENTS: Judging as mottled given white on back & in tail. Nice wide collar. BOS | #93 - Pied Agouti Female COMMENTS: Nice thick straight tail. A little fur missing on nose. Large F body type. 2nd Place | #97 - Colorpoint Slate Female
COMMENTS: Brown cast suggests burmese not CP Slate. Very little white, strong points, nice tail. 3rd Place | #96 Colorpoint Agouti Male
COMMENTS: Points developing well, nice dark toenails. Base color still light. Nice eye, head shape. Thick tail with good color. Honorable Mention | #94 - Gray Agouti Male
COMMENTS: Judged as gray agouti. Excellent mature male body type, good tail, head. |
BOS | #4 - Silver Nutmeg Rex Female 2nd Place | #6 - Silver Nutmeg Rex Male
3rd Place | #7 - Dark Eyed Honey Rex Male
Honorable Mention | #5 - Patch Black Rex Male
COMMENTS: Best Rex coat. Curly & wavy. Honorable Mention | #2 - Nutmeg Rex Female
COMMENTS: Very Rex coat, tail, but color a bit light. |
First Place | #91 - Pied/Mottled Lilac Male, 36-42 months
Still has good masculine bulk, maybe even a little over-conditioned. Good tuft; tail has a bend, but that tends to happen with age. Nice eye shape, broad short head. Fur a little rumpled. Judged as Mottled because of extent of rear-half white and indistinct marking edges. |
3rd Place | #90 - Burmese Male, 36-42 months
This gerbil has serious fur loss on the tail, to the point where skin is visible on most of the length. This would be a disqualification in a live show, because he would not have made it past the health inspection. Some fur thinning can happen with age, but with this extent, I would have a vet check your gerbil, for example, for mites, ringworm, or possibly nutritional deficiencies. It looks like white hairs have grown in over some of this area, so it may already be resolving on its own. Seems slim for a male, but I can’t really judge body type because he’s standing in the profile shots. Missing 2nd claw on right forepaw; damaged 2nd claw on left rear paw. Nice mask, but poor paw points, barely darker than body. Possibly the lighting, but color is more towards “cool gray” than the desired warm brown. Some white on paws, fair amount of white on chin. Nice whiskers, but the lower ones are white because of his chin white. Ears are straight up, rather than angled out at 10 and 2; narrow head seems to be contributing. Despite the fur loss, tail is thick and straight, with some tuft visible. |
2rd Place | #88 – Pied Burmese M, 30-36mo
There’s no true profile shot, so it’s hard to judge body type, but he seems small for a male. Tail is thin and bendy, which does tend to happen with age—but despite being the youngest in the class, he has the thinnest tail. There appears to be a slight tuft. Fur is greasy/separated, a sand bath would help. Damaged 2nd claw on left rear paw, seems to curl up at the tip. Between lighting and positioning, I can’t tell whether he has the full collar required for Pied, but he does have a nice dark nose point/mask. |
